Pontoon

Pontoon and Foxford
Foxford meaning 'mouth of the cataract' or 'rushing water' is an old, well-established County Mayo town. It is situated at the river Moy and nestled between the Ox and Nephin mountains. It is home to the famous Foxford Woolen Mills and has much to entertain its visitors with a visitor centre, outdoor activities, fishing and walking. Visitors have found that walking the Foxford Way (an 86km trail approved by Bórd Fáilte) is an excellent way to take in the beautiful scenery of bog lands, boreens, lakeshores, mountains and riverbanks. The River Moy is known for its salmon fishing, (producing several thousand salmon to the rod annualy) and the nearby Lough Conn and Lough Cullin (in Pontoon) are famous for its brown trout. Pontoon is an ideal location for exploring the rest of Mayo and is a one-hour drive away from Galway and Sligo city. Cullin House is located in Pontoon and the nearest town is Foxford.
